A Pragmatic, Forward-looking Policy

Sustainable development has long been a concern for BOURBON. Quality as applied to relations with customers and partners, quality as applied to human resources and management, control over risks and respect for the environment, quality as applied to governance and organization…All these areas are crucial for BOURBON's future.

Today, the Group is expanding its policy and formalizing its practices in this area by approaching sustainable development in a pragmatic, progressive and measurable way.

15 concrete, measurable actions by the year 2012

Since 2007, BOURBON appointed a working group in charge of developing a sustainable development policy suited to its activities by defining priority issues and measures to be taken:
Three linchpins were defined in terms of development::

  • Economic fairness,
  • Social responsibility,
  • Environmental sustainability.

For each of these linchpins, a major project is selected every year.
Thus, in 2012, the Group will have completed 15 concrete, measurable projects.


2010 Results

  1. Development that is economically fair
    • Objective 2010: elaborate a reliable measurement and reporting system dedicated to the economic pillar.
    • Result: setting up of a grid of non-financial indicators, inspired by the international GRI (Global Reporting Initiative).
  2. Development that is socially responsible
    • Objective 2010: Continue to promote diversity at BOURBON.
    • Result: A diversity board was established. Made up of men and women representative of the Group's cultural diversity it meets twice a year and plays an advisory role with the Executive Committee to which it proposes projects supporting this diversity.
  3. Development that is environmentally sustainable
    • Objective 2010: Sustained efforts are needed to reduce by 20% the intensity of greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2012.
    • Result: Deployment of tools for the direct measurement of diesel consumption upon a part of the BOURBON fleet. This is BOURBON’s commitment in the fight against climate change!
